The Northwest Amateur Radio Society was established in 1985 and serves the suburban FM 1960 area in Northwest Houston. NARS is active in community and public service events.

Club members are interested in QRP, DXing, contesting, homebrew, ragchewing, VE sessions, and getting together for our favorite activity, eating. We welcome all hams as well as family and friends.

Reflector Print

There is an active email reflector on mailman.qth.net. Signup is very easy, and the reflector is quite active. We coordinate club events and activities there, as well as ham radio information and chatter of interest to the community.

Operating Nets Print
Written by webmaster

NARS members meet on the air on three nets. The weekly ragchew net meets on 10 meters (28.444) on Monday evenings from 8:00 to 9:00 P.M. CST. This is a moderated net, but is very informal.

Following the 10 meter net, there is a follow-on informal ragchew on 80 meters. The frequency is usually around 3850, but varies according to band conditions and existing QSOs. Walter, KK5LO, usually posts the frequency for the evening on the NARS reflector.

On Wednesday evenings, Gerry, KB5VGD, conducts a moderated Q&A beginners net. Topics are of interest to all hams, and the net is opento everyone. This is the place to get some on-air operating experience, ask questions, and learn. Frequency is 146.660 / -600 khz, PL 141.3.
