Serving Amateur Radio and Northwest Houston since 1985 Field Day

About Us

The Northwest Amateur Radio Society was established in 1985 and serves the suburban FM 1960 area in northwest Houston. NARS is active in community and public service events.

Club members are interested in QRP, DXing, contesting, homebrew, ragchewing, VE sessions, and getting together for our favorite activity, eating. We welcome all hams as well as family and friends.

To submit a calendar item, email your request to the webmaster. Postings are limited to club events and Amateur Radio related items only. All items posted at the sole discretion of the webmaster.

Meeting Location

Meetings are held at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center, 6823 Cypresswood Drive in the Annex Building, 2nd floor. Eyball QSO's start about 7:00 P.M. The meeting starts at 7:30 P.M.

NARS Straight Key Night

Straight key night, Houston style is off and running again. Mark your calendars for the first Tuesday of each month from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. The frequency is 3540~3550 + or -. This is amateur night, so slow key, fast key, rusty key, good fist, bad fist, any fist.

Keep track of the number of events worked - these will be added to your score. For example, if you had 10 TDXS contacts, 15 NARS contacts, and 5 OO contacts, and worked 10 events, your score would be 20 for TDXS, 25 for NARS, and 15 for OO. Keep the logs until after the December 2007 event, then submit them to Cal White, WF5W.

ARRL Field Day

Field day is almost here! We have arranged to be able to stay overnight at Burroughs Park in NW Harris county. There are still operating slots open, particularly for CW. Even if you don't operate, come on out and visit. Who knows, somebody may shove a microphone in your hand or get you to log for a while so they can take a break. A printable map is in the May NARS newsletter.

  • Coordinator - Ken Wison
  • SSB station - Marty Fitzgerald
  • CW station - Colin Jenkins
  • GOTA station - Peter Brown
Please note - no camping or trailers. One of the conditions of being granted overnight privileges.
